My Academy is delighted to announce that Deborah Burrows and UWA Creative Writing department will be the Judges for the 2013 Perth’s Young Creative Writer of the Year Award!
About the Author: Deborah Burrows
Deborah Burrows is a lawyer and writer and lives in Perth. She works for the WA State Solicitor’s Office, in the area of medical law. She also has several degrees in history including a post-graduate degree in medical history from the University of Oxford, where her dissertation was Science in the Witness Box: Expert Medical Testimony in criminal poisoning trials in England 1800-1860 (bringing together her interest in crime, history, medicine and the legal process). Deborah has written books such as ‘AStranger in My Street’ and ‘Taking a Chance’. Deborah will be judging the winning entry and placing the top three entries.
University of Western Australia Creative Writing Department
Students on the UWA creative writing course work throughout the semester to plan and then write one or more pieces of creative work (fiction, poetry, or drama/script). They have their writing subjected to workshop critique in tutorials led by a tutor who is a published creative writer. The Creative writing department will be judging entries that make it through to the 2nd round of judging.
